American Diabetes Association - Great Plains Region

The Great Plains Region was the first regionalization of the American Diabetes chapters, and consisted of Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Prior to this, chapters were often arranged at the state or local levels, reporting up to the national level. This regionalization was an effort to develop more centralized oversight and to reduce organizational expenses by combining support services. With our regional headquarters in Des Moines, Iowa, I served as the Area Director responsible for eastern Iowa, with primary focus on these metro areas: Cedar Rapids & Iowa City, Waterloo & Cedar Falls, and the Quad Cities area, including the Illinois area.
